1. Les temps essentiels
I work in Cotonou.
Present simple : habitude, situation permanente.
I visited Ghana last year.
Past simple : action terminée avec un repère passé.
I have worked here for three years.
Present perfect : lien avec le présent (for / since).
I was travelling when the problem happened.
Past continuous + past simple : action en cours interrompue.
I am going to start a new project.
be going to : intention, projet décidé.
I will call you tomorrow.
will : décision, promesse, futur.
2. Comparatifs et modaux
This solution is better than the previous one.
Comparatif : better than (irrégulier).
We should discuss the problem.
should = conseil.
We could try another solution.
could = possibilité, suggestion.
We must find an answer.
must = obligation forte.
You have to contact the manager.
have to = obligation extérieure.
3. First conditional et connecteurs
because · although · however · therefore · so · while · when.
If we work together, we will find a solution.
First conditional : If + présent, will + base verbale.
I stayed because the meeting was important.
because = la cause.
Although the problem was difficult, we found a solution.
although = bien que (contraste).
The train was delayed; however, I arrived on time.
however = cependant.
Communication was difficult; therefore, we organised more meetings.
therefore = par conséquent.
The flight was cancelled, so we booked another one.

Good morning. My name is Paul and I live in Cotonou. I have worked as a project assistant for four years, and during this time I have learned a lot about teamwork and communication. An important experience in my life was my first international project. I worked with colleagues from three different countries, and the communication was sometimes difficult because we spoke different languages. One day, we had a serious problem: the project was late and our client was not happy. I was working on the report when my manager called me and explained the situation. We had to make a decision quickly. I suggested that we organise a short online meeting every morning; therefore, everybody knew exactly what to do. Although the situation was difficult, we finished the project successfully. I learned that good communication is better than working alone. In my opinion, communication and respect are the most important skills in an international environment. If we listen to each other, we will solve most problems. For the future, I am going to improve my English and I would like to work in an international company. I will also study project management, because it is a useful skill. In conclusion, my experience has shown me that problems are opportunities to learn. Thank you for listening.
