( 06 ) Grammaire

📖 Grammar

A. Present Perfect avec FOR et SINCE

Formation : have / has + participe passé. « for » + une durée (for ten years = depuis dix ans). « since » + un moment de départ (since 2020, since school). On l’utilise pour une situation commencée dans le passé et toujours vraie aujourd’hui.

I have known John for ten years.

Je connais John depuis dix ans. (for + durée)

She has lived here since 2020.

Elle habite ici depuis 2020. (since + point de départ)

We have known each other since school.

Nous nous connaissons depuis l’école. (since + moment de départ)

How long have you known her?

Depuis combien de temps la connais-tu ?

B. Should / Shouldn’t

« should » + base verbale sert à donner un conseil ; « shouldn’t » déconseille. Pas de « to » après should.

You should talk to your friend.

Tu devrais parler à ton ami. (conseil)

You shouldn't lie to your friends.

Tu ne devrais pas mentir à tes amis.

I think you should apologize.

Je pense que tu devrais t’excuser.

C. Too / Enough

« too » = trop, il se place avant l’adjectif (too busy). « enough » = assez, il se place après l’adjectif (old enough) mais avant un nom (enough time).

He is too busy to meet us.

Il est trop occupé pour nous voir. (too = trop)

She is old enough to understand.

Elle est assez grande pour comprendre. (enough = assez)

This restaurant is too expensive.

Ce restaurant est trop cher.

He isn't patient enough.

Il n’est pas assez patient. (adjectif + enough)

📖 My Best Friend

My best friend is called Daniel. We have known each other since primary school, so our friendship has lasted for more than fifteen years.

Daniel is a very kind and generous person. He is always ready to help when I have a problem, and he is patient enough to listen to me for hours.

We don't live in the same neighborhood any more, but we still spend time together. We usually meet at the weekend to play football, share a meal or simply talk about our projects.

Of course, we sometimes have arguments. Last year we disagreed about a work project and we didn't speak for two weeks. In the end, I apologized and he forgave me.

For me, a good friendship needs trust, respect and communication. I think you should always be honest with your friends, even when it is difficult.

1. How long have they known each other?

2. Where did they meet?

3. What qualities does Daniel have?

4. What happened last year?
